46 Grams of Protein and 4 Grams of Fat. Better than Chicken.

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of alligator is probably an image of a scaly lizard with long, sharp teeth, rolling around in the mud. While the mental image is justified by the fact that they aren’t the friendliest creatures on earth, one thing is for certain- alligator tail is some of the most delicious protein you’ll ever try. For your benefit, let’s sink our teeth into why alligator meat is highly misunderstood. Beyond the incredible health benefits, eating gator also how promotes sustainability in Florida’s ecosystem as well as making some damn good tacos.

Alligator meat has one of the highest percentages of protein per gram of any meat on earth. The reptile provides a great lean meat alternative to chicken, turkey, and pork. At 46 grams of protein and 4 grams of fat for a 100-gram piece, the nutritional value is unmatched by other light meat protein. It also has a large concentration of potassium, vitamin B12, and niacin. Many consumers of gator tail describe it as a mix between dark meat chicken and pork with a little taste of fish. Others have explained it to be a perfect mix of grouper and chicken wings. Many customers throughout the country prepare gator tail by either grilling or frying it.

Fried gator tacos and gator nuggets have a cult following in Florida, and are even preferred to many fish and chicken. They source meat that is trimmed and cleaned better than any other alligator distributor. When the meat is prepared better you receive a product which is less gamey. They never add water or a sodium solution to falsely increase weight like some competitors. Preservatives and other additives are never used because we want you to eat the gator the way it is intended to be eaten- fresh.

A group out of Florida named Made You Hungry has made it their mission to source local ingredients which are the highest grade possible. These products must be the highest quality meat or they won’t serve it- it’s that simple. This starts with sustainability and respect for the animal. Their alligator is sourced from central Florida and the meat is trimmed and packaged to maintain optimum freshness from their facilities to your kitchen. Go ahead and take the plunge into tasting alligator- I’m confident after you try it once it will not be your last.
